Joannes Kolodzej was born in Stara Lubovna on 12 February 1861 and was baptized on 17 February 1861 in the Roman Catholic church on the town square. His godparents are listed as Andreas Kolodzey (his grandfather?) and Maria Molesanyi. His parents' address at the time was Jarembina No. 221.
Mary Lacny was born in August of 1860 in Slovakia.
Joannes and Mary Married in 1886 in Slovakia.
Joannes made the voyage from Slovakia through Hamburg, Germany to America, arriving on 25 February 1889 at NYC aboard the SS Polaria. That same year, John and Mary had their firstborn child, Maria.
In 1892, Joannes Declared his Intent to become a US Citizen.
Their second born, John Stephen, was born on Valentines Day 1891 in Bayonne.
Their third child, Anna Sofia, was born in June of 1893.
Their fourth and youngest child, Anthony John, was born on 22 November 1894 in Bayonne.
In 1900, Joannes (John) and his family lived on the north side of East 22nd St in Bayonne, NJ. John worked as an Oil Works laborer and Mary took care of little Anton while Mary, John, and Anna were students in grade school.
In 1910, John and his family lived on East 25th Street, still in Bayonne. John and his two sons all worked in the oil yards.
In 1912, John's beloved Mary passed away.
By 1920, John (Elder) lived with his son, John, but still at East 25th Street. John (Elder) was 60 years old and listed as "sick".
