Ostpreussen, now a part of Poland, describes the lands of Northeast Poland just south of the Kaliningrad/Lithuanian border. The lands were originally inhabited by Baltic tribes and later conquered by the Teutonic Knights in the 13th century. Over centuries, it became a central part of Prussia, evolving through Polish and German rule, and was a stronghold of the Prussian aristocracy. Ostpreussen was a part of the German Empire until the end of World War II when it was divided between Poland and the Soviet Union. Today, the Polish-owned area is known as the Warmian–MasurianVoivodship.
Perhaps the Kolodzey families started in southern Poland and moved north into Ostpreussen with the Teutonic knights. Or perhaps, they started in Ostpreussen and moved south into Poland, Galicia, and Slovakia.
As the picture depicts, this site is dedicated to the Kolodzeys that left behind the mountains of Slovakia, Galicia, Deutchia, and Prussia to live in the United States of America. This is our story.
