Although some explanations begin with unnamed street kids that lived in Sebastia, the name used by the Sebastiansky family draws its roots from the third century martyr, Saint Sebastian. St Sebastian was martyred by being tied to a pole and shot with arrows - which he survived - only to be later beaten to death with clubs for warning Diocletian of his sins.
Spellings include: Sebastiansky, Szebestianszky, Sebastianszky, Sebestianski, or Sebastianski.
One of the earliest records in Stara Lubovna for the Sebastiansky family was the marriage of Gasparo Sebastiansky & Catharina Kasprovitz in February of 1745. Here.
Anna Kolodzey (b 1815) was the eldest daughter of Andreas Kolodzey and Catharina Andrasovitz, She married Stanislaus Szebestianszky on 3 November 1836. Her grand daughters immigrated to the United States and lived in Staten Island in the 1900s; Maria and Julia. Maria married Frank Djiak (also from Stara Lubovna) and they had eight children whose descendants are DNA matches. Julia married George Schuld II and they had two sons whose descendants are DNA matches. The Szebestianszky descendants validated through DNA that Andreas Kolodzey and Catharina Andrasovitz are, in fact, the ancestors of Joannes Kolodzey and Maria Tokarszky's descendants,
As the picture depicts, this site is dedicated to the Kolodzeys that left behind the mountains of Slovakia, Galicia, Deutchia, and Prussia to live in the United States of America. This is our story.
