Adamik & Gluvnya Families

Adamik-Gluvyna

Variations include:  Adamik, Adam, Adamczyk, Adamcik

The Adamik surname is of Slavic origin.  It is the name given by God to the first man "Adam."  The suffix "-ik" is an affectionate suffix with an endearing connotation, like "little Adam" or "son of Adam."   Adamik may carry connotations of strength, leadership, or responsibility.  This branch of the Adamik family comes from Dacaov, Slovakia.

The Gluvyna surname  may derive from a Slavic root meaning "glove" or "to cover".  Historically, this would signify an ancestor who worked as a leather worker, glove maker, or garment creator.  It may also be closely tiedto the surname Glavina, which stems from glava (meaning "head") and denotes a leader or prominent person in a village.  It is also possible that the name is derived from the Celtic St. Gluvias - meaning 'wise' or 'fair'.  This particular branch of the Gluvyna family is from Hervartov, Slovakia.

The Adamik Families of Bardejov

One  of the families related to the Kolodzey line is the Adamik family from Bardejov.  Knowing that the Tokarszky family was listed as being from Bardejov (Bartfa/Bartfeld) as shown in three records, the Adamik family is most likely related to the Tokarszky line.  You may recognize the  Tokarszky name from Charles S Kolodgy's grandmother Maria Tokarszky (b.  1834, wife of Joannes Kolodzey b. 1829).

The  majority of the Adamik families were located in Fayette County, Pennsylvania (Uniontown, Oliver, Phillips, around the 1900s.  By the 1950s, many had branched out to Ohio where the majority live today.

As  you can see from the tree diagram, the green boxes are DNA matches with lighter green boxes showing the thru-lines.  This demonstrates that our DNA match to the Adamik family is no one-off connection, as there are eight different DNA matches to this family.

The  Adamik families with matches include: Legat, Ellis, Cain, Godlewski,  and Bukowski.  Other Adamik families that have yet to submit DNA tests  or have no matches are: Koshock, Kaurich, Dee, Papajcik, Marchand,  Mortimer, Christovich.
